Port of Tekirdağ

Tekirdağ (often written Tekirdag) is a port area on the northern coast of the Sea of Marmara, west of Istanbul. The Asyaport container terminal at Barbaros, Ceyport in the town center, and Martaş and the BOTAŞ LNG terminal at Marmara Ereğlisi all fall under one harbour master. Container, bulk, tanker and LNG traffic creates work for different service firms.

Terminals

Asyaport, Ceyport Tekirdağ, Martaş Marmara Ereğlisi Port, BOTAŞ LNG Terminal

Tekirdağ receives container ships, general cargo and dry bulk ships, liquid cargo tankers and LNG carriers bound for the terminal at Marmara Ereğlisi. According to statistics from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, 3,049 calling vessels were recorded in the Tekirdağ harbour master’s area in 2025.

Port profile

Tekirdağ’s port facilities sit in two clusters:

  • Süleymanpaşa shore: the Asyaport container terminal at Barbaros, and Ceyport Tekirdağ in the town center. Ceyport handles general cargo, dry bulk and liquid cargo.
  • Marmara Ereğlisi: Martaş Marmara Ereğlisi Port for dry and liquid bulk, the BOTAŞ LNG terminal pier, and liquid bulk terminals such as Likit Port.

According to the Ministry’s 2025 figures, the Tekirdağ harbour master’s area handled about 2.14 million TEU of containers, the highest total after Ambarlı and Kocaeli. The 2025 Ro-Ro statistics also show sailings from Tekirdağ to Sete and Trieste.

Vessel traffic and anchorages

Tekirdağ’s traffic is mixed: container ships for Asyaport, general cargo and bulk ships for the town port, and tankers and LNG carriers for Marmara Ereğlisi. The anchorages in the area of the Tekirdağ Regional Harbour Master are defined in the annex to the Ports Regulation. The three anchorages off Tekirdağ are split as follows:

  • Anchorage No. 1: ships under 1,000 GT not carrying dangerous goods.
  • Anchorage No. 2: ships of 1,000 GT and above not carrying dangerous goods.
  • Anchorage No. 3: ships carrying dangerous goods, quarantine and gas-freeing.

Off Marmara Ereğlisi there is a separate anchorage for LNG carriers and further areas for other ships.

Ships sailing between the Dardanelles and the Bosphorus also pass off Tekirdağ without calling at the port. That makes the size of the monitoring circle matter here: the bigger the circle, the more ships that never call at Tekirdağ end up on the list.

Which service companies find work at Tekirdağ?

  • Ship chandlers: container ships stay at berth only briefly, so orders must be ready before arrival. See ship chandlers.
  • Bunker and lubricant suppliers: tankers bound for Marmara Ereğlisi and container ships are customers for fuel and lubricating oil. See bunker and lubricants.
  • Ship agents: bulk and general cargo ships on single voyages to the town port appoint an agent for every call.
  • Surveyors and technical service firms: draft surveys for bulk cargo, quantity measurement for liquid cargo, and repairs and parts deliveries that fit the berth window.

How does VesselCall monitor Tekirdağ?

In Outreach you choose a range for Tekirdağ: a radius in nautical miles (nm). For Tekirdağ we place the center between Asyaport and the town port and suggest 8 nm. That circle covers both terminals and the anchorage areas off Tekirdağ. The terminals at Marmara Ereğlisi lie about 20 nautical miles east of this center, and a circle large enough to include them would also catch ships crossing the Sea of Marmara without calling at Tekirdağ.

For each cargo ship, tanker or passenger ship that enters the circle, VesselCall finds the ship manager and sends your introduction e-mail from your own domain. If you prefer, approval mode lets you review every e-mail before it goes out.

The Data package records port calls at Tekirdağ independently of e-mail sending. You can run period reports by sub-type, such as container ship, tanker or LPG/LNG carrier, and see the average stay and the monthly trend. Records build up from the day monitoring starts.
